North Hero-Grand Isle
Drawbridge Replacement
Client: North Hero-Grand Isle, VT
Collaborators: VTrans
Project Span: 2012-2023
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has completed construction
on Bridge 8 on U.S. 2 between the towns of North Hero and Grand Isle, Vermont. This drawbridge is an historic twin-leaf bascule bridge and the only vehicular movable bridge in the State of Vermont. Construction began in June 2018 and the bridge was opened to traffic in the Fall of 2022. Demolition of the temporary drawbridge was completed in 2023.
EIV provided construction inspection, office engineering, and project outreach services. EIV staffers were responsible for providing ongoing assurance of safety compliance, monitoring the job site for adherence to specifications and plans, surveying, material volume estimates and daily reporting of activities.
EIV began providing project outreach services during the scoping phase of the project in 2012. Throughout the duration of the project, we held public informational meetings, developed and administered a project survey, created a project brand and website, and provided construction status updates to stakeholders on a weekly basis.
