Colchester Bridges:
I-89 Bridge Deck Replacements

Client: City of Colchester, VT
Project Span: 2018-2019

This $14.5M project includes the deck replacement of four three-span bridges (Bridges 76N and 76S spanning Bay Rd., and Bridges 77N and 77S spanning Mallett’s Creek) on I-89 between Exit 16 and Exit 17 in Colchester, VT. All existing steel and abutments were retained and repaired if necessary, while the backwalls and deck were replaced with precast concrete. Crossovers across the median were utilized to allow traffic to continually flow safely as construction progressed. As part of VTrans’ Accelerated Bridge Program, the majority of bridge work was completed over six weekend closures, and allowed each bridge to open at the end of the 59-hour timeframe.

EIV was on site providing inspection and construction oversight as well as office engineering services. Four of the six core inspection staff were EIV employees.
